The Golden Thread is a premium, intergenerational storytelling game designed to spark meaningful conversations, connect generations and thus help transmit immaterial family wealth. Through 90 deeply researched questions across 6 distinct seasons of life, it provides a gentle, chronological roadmap to uncover and preserve a loved one’s life story.

How is The Golden Thread different from a standard box of icebreaker cards?
Most conversation decks are randomized icebreakers printed on standard playing cards. The Golden Thread is structured as a chronological biographical journey—moving intentionally from The Origins through The Wild Years to Hard-Won Wisdom. Furthermore, it is designed as a luxury object d'art; it features heavy linen card stock, custom vintage etchings, and a premium midnight-blue rigid box with a magnetic enclosure meant to live permanently on your coffee table or library shelf.

How many people can play?
A: The Golden Thread is designed to be completely flexible. It works beautifully as an engaging, reflective group activity for the whole family during dinners, holidays, or gatherings. It also works very well as an intimate, one-on-one biographical session between a parent and child or a grandparent and a grandchild.

What are the rules of the Golden Thread?
There is only one Golden Rule: whoever is being asked a question has the right to skip it. Other than that, feel free to pick cards randomly, or one after the other. Don't forget to follow the thread and ask follow-up questions to the storyteller!

Unlike StoryCorps or recording apps, which turn storytelling into a one-off recorded interview, The Golden Thread offers a fully tactile and present experience without any app or equipment required rather than a one-off recorded interview. The quality of the product is such that it look nice on your coffee table or living room shelf, within easy reach for impromptu storytelling sessions.

What if my parent or grandparent is shy or doesn't want to share?
The 90 questions span a wide range, from playful and easy to deeply personal. If a storyteller is shy, start with the lighter questions and let the conversation build naturally toward the more personal ones, there's no pressure and no wrong way to play.
